"The Self-Build Survival Guide" is a good overall introduction for anyone considering doing quite a bit of DIY. It is more targeted at people who want to build from scratch or do a full barn or church conversion, rather than the more regular home-owners who just want to put an extension and solar panels, but remains a very useful read for anyone. It helped me get a better understanding, especially on who to turn to for initial and ongoing help. Most people think architects but actually surveyors, engineers, architects and planning advisors all have their own roles and can be helpful at various stages. I still feel overwhelmed by the idea of doing any major building works and most importantly getting planning consent seem to be challenging.Having read this book has detered me from thinking I could ever build my own house from scratch. I would most likely hire a whole team of professionals and enjoy observing them and helping out to learn along the way. The last thing you want is to be in charge of your house's foundations and supporting walls and risk making your family homeless!Easy to read and gets your mind thinking so good read.I hope this helps.Aurora TyasPop&Go KnickersStriving to keep us comfortable when it's all becoming too much and challenging!
